The Special Collections Book Club
highlights and celebrates African American fiction
while encouraging thoughtful and engaging discussions.

The Fall semester Special Collections Book Club Pick is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.  This young adult novel has received rave reviews since its’ early 2017 release.  The book takes the reader on Starr’s journey after her long-time friend is murdered by a police officer right before her very eyes.  The novel is filled with rich characters and cleverly weaves in elements of the Black Lives Matter movement as well as highlights the significance of Tupac’s famous tattoo and lyrics.

The popular book has already been selected to be adapted into a movie! Amandla Stenberg, Common, Regina Hall and Issa Rae are among the cast members who are currently filming in Atlanta.

Come into the Special Collections area in the library and check out a copy today and join us on
